The Crith are a matriarchal species of wasp-like elves, organized into hives ruled by powerful queens. Though their physiology appears mammalian, Crith reproduce through larvae birthed by the queen and nourished in resinous pods for months until a new Crith emerges.

Two years ago, a young and ambitious queen named Ichnariel discovered a dark innovation: by implanting her larvae into the bodies of other humanoids, she could accelerate their growth. These hosts were slowly consumed from within, ultimately transforming into fully formed Crith monstrosities—fiercely loyal to their queen. With this method, Ichnariel envisioned an army of thralls with which to conquer rival hives and found a Crith empire that would dominate the region.

Before she could act on her plans, however, her scheme was uncovered by another queen. Assassins were dispatched, and Ichnariel barely escaped with her life, accompanied only by a few loyal followers.

Forced into hiding, she sought a secluded location where she could build her hive in secret. She found it in an abandoned monastery once dedicated to physical and mental rejuvenation. Over the past year, her followers have been posing as monks, offering a mysterious treatment said to restore vitality and virility. The elixir they use has genuine invigorating effects—just enough to lure in the elderly whose disappearance could easily go unnoticed. Once within the hive’s grasp, these victims are used as hosts for Ichnariel’s larvae hidden within the monastery’s crypts.

The characters arrive at the monastery with a mission to uncover its secret.

Beneath waxen walls, an unseen will breeds new purpose for those who stay. Can you unravel its plans, before you lose yourselves to its call?

Sylvari: Hive of the Wasp Queen is a Fifth Edition adventure for four to six adventurers with an average party level (APL) of 4. Due to the nature of this adventure, characters with resistance to poison damage will have an advantage.
