For centuries, the remote shores of Zangor–on a continent known as the Old World–have lured bold explorers with promises of untold riches.

Before the coming of man, troll, or giant, the Glaukin roamed the icy expanses, spirit-talkers and guardians of the many now forgotten sacred places of the world. Even as the landwalkers spread across the unforgiving North, before the deities and divines as they are known today, the Great Totems guided their steps: Bear, Bison, Elk, Owl, and Raven - and many more besides. As the seasons turn, so too does mortal faith, from the demanding ancestor spirits of slow and subtle miracles to the fickle gods granting quick and flashy power. Though not pleased, the totems understand, for they are tied to the ebb and tide of time.

Recently, another shift has occurred, as the Arcturi Torberok restored the influence of Bifask, the Bison Totem, illustrating to the peoples of the North that there was much to be gained by returning to the Old Ways. These events inspired the followers of  Atall Augu, the Owl Totem, to break with tradition of letting the seasons turn as they will, and take it upon themselves to restore their own patron’s influence. Under the guidance of Sagaskald, the Rimewind Exarch - Owl’s champion in the mortal realms - the Glaukin have been attempting to broaden the scope of their traditional duties. Beyond shepherding ancient and elemental spirits, and guarding both location and memory of sacred sites, they have begun speaking for the dead of the younger races, while at the same time spreading the teachings of Atall Augu.

So far, they have involved themselves in small, isolated incidents, especially further north. Still, it has become clear to Sagaskald that the future belongs to the earthbound humanoid races, and that is where the Glaukin need to spread Owl’s influence.

Some years ago, at the time of Briarburg’s massacre, the Arcturi Bjornkrieg had left a path of destruction and slaughter across other, smaller settlements, whose tragedies went mostly unnoticed. One of them was Jokullborg, and contrary to Briarburg, the harsh practicalities of the North never allowed for any action that would put the spirits of its slain to rest.

Sagaskald has decided to give these spirits a voice, to make their plight known to the living, and shepherd them towards retaliation against their surviving killers, finally putting the rapidly-forgotten specters to rest. At the same time, this will make the younger races keenly aware of Atall Augu’s power, thus advancing the restoration of the Owl Totem’s influence.

Owl, in its wisdom, has neither blessed nor thwarted these plans, ever watching the seasons turn…
