The Umbral Sporecallers cult has spread its reach to the town of Weitwasser, a partially underground settlement with buildings carved into valley walls and a lakeside port below the surface that was once a trade hub.
Certain underground parts of the town have become the breeding ground for otherworldly fungal growth, a growing maze of rot that corrupts the minds of the townspeople like an infection, making them unwilling and, at first, even unaware, servants of the cult.
The party arrives during an execution held by the Knights of The Sapphire Bond. They claim to be executing a traitor to the town, though the prisoner pleads innocence. An investigation unfolds as the party tries to uncover the Knights’ secrets, find the fungal growth’s epicenter, and fight against the cultists who protect it.
